This intensive and highly practical 1-day course is designed to equip clinicians with practical, evidence-informed mobilisation and K-taping techniques to address stiff, dysfunctional lower limb joints, reduce pain, improve gait mechanics, enhance posture, and support soft tissue and joint-related injuries.

About the Course

This foot mobilisation course is open to all HCPC/CORU registered podiatrists, chiropodists, physiotherapists and  chiropractors.

Restoring Movement, Reducing Pain, Optimising Function

This intensive and highly practical 1-day course is designed to equip clinicians with practical, evidence-informed mobilisation and K-taping techniques to address stiff, dysfunctional lower limb joints, reduce pain, improve gait mechanics, enhance posture, and support soft tissue and joint-related injuries.

This course is ideal for clinicians with active patients including runners, footballers, walkers and other sporting individuals.

Course Sylabus

1. Foundations of Lower Limb Dysfunction

  • Foot and ankle joint mechanics / anatomy revision  

2. Identifying Joint Stiffness & Dysfunction

  • End-feel assessment
  • Palpation skills
  • Joint play assessment (ankle, midfoot, 1st MTPJ, knee)  

3. Mobilisation Techniques for the Lower Limb

  • Principles of Mobilisation Indications & contraindications
  • Grading of mobilisation
  • When NOT to mobilise
  • Foot & Ankle Mobilisations
  • Talocrural joint (AP/PA glides)
  • Subtalar joint mobilisations Midfoot (cuboid, navicular techniques)
  • 1st MTPJ mobilisation for hallux limitus
  • Forefoot stiffness techniques

Practical: Partner-based technique practice    

4. K-Taping for Support & Functional Correction

  • Taping Theory What is kinesiology tape?
  • Kinesiology vs traditional tape
  • Tape tension principles  

4.1Taping for Joint Support

  • Ankle instability Medial longitudinal arch support
  • 1st MTPJ offloading
  • Patellofemoral tracking
  • Tibialis posterior support  

5. Taping for Soft Tissue Injury

  • Plantar fasciopathy
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Peroneal strain
  • Medial knee pain
  • Correct anchor placement
  • Direction of pull
  • Combining unloading + facilitation techniques  

6. Integrating Mobilisation & Taping

  • Treatment Sequencing
  • When to mobilise first
  • When to tape first
  • Using taping to “hold the gain” after mobilisation

This course will also ensure all clinicians understand the safety and clinical governance for all treatments including red flags,  contraindications to mobilisation, skin considerations with taping and ensuring documentation standards.

Tutor

Somuz Miah, CFPodM, BSc (PodM), Dip Sp.I, PGC IP, MFPM RCPS (Glasg),is a qualified Sports Practitioner & Podiatrist (Diploma Sports injuries &Electro Therapy).  

Somuz is qualified in Spinal & Peripheral Joint Manipulation HVLA. He has been practicing podiatry for over 24 years. Somuz is a Consultant Podiatrist Prescriber & Member of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons Glasgow.
